Join your friends and neighbors in Barry County at the Courthouse on Saturday, October 20th, and in Allegan County at Baker Allegan Studios on Sunday, October 21st, and make your own mark during this year’s Arts and Eats Tour. This year we are offering you an opportunity to try your own hand at art with artist, Toby Ten Eyk. Each county will be provided a 10′ x 3′ blank canvas, brushes, and paints to show the rest of state what you make of your place in Michigan. Once the canvases have been filled, they will be given to local area businesses to display. Similar open canvas events have been featured at the Lansing Art Gallery and main campus of Michigan State University. The 2012 Arts and Eats Tour canvases are sponsored in part by Michigan State University Extension and the Department of Sociology at MSU, and supervised by Toby Ten Eyck, a sociologist who specializes in culture, the arts, and mass media. Make art and become a part of the exciting and growing Michigan art and food scene! Get all the info about this years tour at artsandeats.org

Forty sites last year in Barry County made for an awesome tour, and we’re looking forward to even more this year in Allegan County. Being a growing backroads tour, it takes time for us to get the word out to every nook and cranny of two rural Michigan counties so we’re extending the deadline–as much for us as for our peace of mind as for yours–to June 30. Won’t you join us? Apply today.
Participant registration is now open for the 2nd Annual Arts & Eats weekend, which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 20-21, throughout portions of Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, Kent and Van Buren Counties. Applications for artist studios, galleries, farms and restaurants are available online at www.ArtsAndEats.org, under “Applications” and are due by close of business on June 15. Read more…
For the 2012 Backroads Tour we’re excited to be working with the Allegan County Tourist Council to expand Arts and Eats all the way to the Lake Michigan shoreline. The character of the landscape changes so much as you travel across Southwest Michigan, you’ll find unique character in each of the artists, eateries, and farmers you visit as well. Check out our new Arts and Eats website to get the latest information.
